A Sweet Tea Cherry Whiskey Sour to Mix Up for Your Next Gathering

What is a whiskey sour?

A popular autumn and winter drink to enjoy after a workday or on a weekend night with friends is a whiskey sour. This mixed drink has been around since the late 1800s but is believed to have been around even earlier.

A whiskey sour is a blend of sweet and sour flavors in one and makes your body feel warm and cozy while you are drinking it. A traditional mix is made with whiskey or bourbon with added lemon juice and a touch of sugar mixed in.

Sailors and pirates before the 1860s may have been drinking whiskey sours prior to the recipe first being published. Due to a lack of proper nutrition and hygiene, sailors often fought many diseases and believed spirits, such as whiskey and rum, were remedies to heal their illnesses that often were fatal due to the lack of vitamin C in their diets at sea.

Those at sea would often bring large amounts of citrus fruits, such as lemons, limes, and oranges with them and mixed these fruits with the spirits they kept on board at room temperature.

Is there a sweet cherry version without simple syrup?

Today, the whiskey sour has evolved across the United States and has become a popular drink of choice.

There are many whiskey sour variations to choose from such as a New York Sour, with red wine added, or a Boston Sour, that includes egg whites to create a nice foam texture. One of our favorite seasonal whiskey sour is a smooth cherry whiskey sour.

This cherry drink often includes cherry syrup but supplements that with our zero sugar Southern Breeze Sweet Cherry Iced Tea. This whiskey sour is quick and easy to make and contains 5 ingredients and 5 steps.
