Our Top 7 Home Design Tips

Granny always said, “Home is where the heart is!” We can hear her echoing now as we are lookin’ around the house and see that our home needs... a complete make over.  A home update is needed, but just like everyone, we are lookin’ to pinch a few pennies...

How can you give your home a makeover without breaking the bank?  Well, we think that some art, paint, and colorful accents could indeed make such a big difference in your home and really cheer up the place- Granny approved too!

Here are some of our favorite tips to get your house refreshed and in shape in no time.

Mix n’ Match

Mixing and matching items in your home can create an eclectic look that looks updated and modern. Have a variety of glassware at your celebrations, mix and match kitchen chairs, have different color pillows on your bed.

Sweet Tip! Buy things on clearance at closeout stores and find a spot for them in your home. There is a space for everything!

Add an Antique

Looking for a spot to add that vintage chest you found at the flea market last weekend? Put, it in and unexpected place like... your bathroom! Antiques help add a rustic feel to a modern home and adds a bit of character too! Plus it’s added storage to put towels and extra sheets for guests.

Paint It White

Freshen a table, dressers, or a wooden frame with a glossy, white paint. Painting an inexpensive item white will help make it look like you spent a good penny on the item when you have only spent a few. Don’t worry, we won’t tell!

Cover Walls with Plates

Have a collection of plates from past holidays or family wedding china that you were gifted second hand? Hang them on your walls! That’s right, a collection of different sized plates make one big art piece, adds character, and  it's cheap too! Marvel at the beauty when all the plates are hung.

Move Seating Away From Walls

Rearrange your seating furniture and float it away from walls to create a more cozy and updated seating arrangement. It may even make your living space and home look more spacious too.

Reupholster Furniture Using Old Curtains

Reduce, reuse, recycle! Reupholstering furniture is pricey. You don’t have to shell out more money to update your dining room chairs either. Take those curtains that you are hangin’ on to and reline the dining room cushions with them.

Add Accent Colors

Pops of color can help bring a dull room color palette back to life. Try adding bright yellows to a mainly blue and white room. Or red throw pillows to a black and white bedroom. The options are endless! Yard and Estate sales are great places that you can discover one of a kind treasures to help brighten your space.
